eHealth News EU – Survey Takes Pulse of eHealth in Europe and Prescribes Wider ICT use Among Doctors

The European Commission today published a pan-European survey on electronic services in healthcare (eHealth) that shows 87% of European doctors (General Practitioners) use a computer, 48% with a broadband connection. European doctors increasingly store and send patients’ data such as lab reports electronically.

EU: eHealth Action Plan Progress report 2005

This progress report describes the main results of a first year of work since the publication of the eHealth Action Plan (2004): activities undertaken in 2005 by the European Commission and Member States together. The report reveals that there has particularly been a very close cooperation between the Commission services and the members of the i2010 subgroup on eHealth.

In a new position paper released today by the American College of Physicians (ACP) at www.acponline.org/advocacy, the nation’s largest medical specialty organization says that collaboration among physicians, patients, technology developers, and policymakers must occur if e-health activities like electronic communication between physicians and their patients, remote monitoring of patients, personal and electronic health records, and patients seeking health information online are to transform health care in the U.S.
